How does meditation help in recovery?
We use meditation in a number of ways. To relax and to also build the foundation for a mindfulness cognitive technique. You can read about this in detail on our Meditation page
What is 'a mindfulness based cognitive technique'
Mindfulness teaches us how to see the intimate connection between our thoughts and our panic and anxiety. It also teaches us how to lose our fears associated to our anxiety disorder and how to control our thoughts. Our Mindfulness pages discuss this in detail
Can you tell me how I can learn meditation and mindfulness?
You do need to learn from an experienced Mindfulness teacher, preferably someone who also has experience in working with someone with an anxiety disorder.
Bronwyn's books, Power over Panic', the DVDs and her CDs, (which include 20 minutes of meditation music), all teach mindfulness and are available from our Book Store
I use a visualisation technique. Is this the same as meditation?
There is no doubt that visualisation techniques can help you relax, but they do not assist you in learning mindfulness. With visualisation techniques and progressive muscle relaxation techniques, you are still actively engaging your thoughts to help create a relaxing scene or to relax your muscles. Mindfulness meditation is different. It assists people in learning to not become involved in their thoughts and teaches people how to control them.
How does telephone counselling work?
This is detailed on our Counselling pages and these include a number of options for you to choose from.
Can you tell me more about cognitive behavioural therapy?
The article on our website, CBT, discusses this therapy.

What can I do to help my child with their anxiety?
We have an article on Childhood Anxiety in our Article section that you may wish to read.
There is also a book, Helping your Anxious Child by Ron Rapee, Susan Spence, Vanessa Cobham and Ann Wignall that allows parents or anyone working with children to understand the complexities of childhood anxiety and provides some very practical ways of helping a child to overcome anxiety. This is available through the Panic Anxiety Disorder Association in Sth Australia.
You may also wish to visit a Childhood Anxiety Web Ring for more information
